The term ‘dumbwaiter’ was first used in wealthy houses in the mid 1800s for the household staff to transporting food and dishes upstairs to the dining room and back down to the kitchen, so offering a noise free transportation of items, hence the term “dumb waiter ”

Dumbwaiters are also known as food lifts, kitchen lifts, microlifts and service lifts and are designed for transporting food, drinks, stationery and small freight from floor to floor in pubs, restaurants, cafes, factories, residential houses, libraries, shops, banks and offices.
